Pre-primary to Grade 5 After-School Program (Jr. ASP).
Buses from local area schools drop youth on Champions Way where they are met by our highly experienced Active After-School staff. The program runs from 2:00 pm until 5:30 pm Monday to Friday during the school year (see separate PD Options under “Programs” on our website). Our Jr. ASP takes full advantage of our beautiful and secluded 20-acre property, modern infrastructure and equipment, as well as the McDonald Sports Parks connected to Cheema by our walking trails.
Daily Activities include:
• Hiking, Nature Activities
• Arts and Crafts
• Indoor and Outdoor (weather dependent): Soccer, Flag Football, Baseball, Frisbee, Dodgeball, Ball Hockey, Hula Hoop/Skipping, etc.
• Field Days
• Snowshoeing, Sliding, Snow Forts
• Safety training leading to age appropriate and comfort-based aquatic activities like Dragonboat Paddling and other Stable Canoes and Kayaks.
• Board Games
• And much more!
Because time to interact and be social is especially important to child development, the children will have free time to play, colour/craft, read or attend to any school homework they might have. Every day our participants will be welcomed with a healthy after school snack before they experience a variety of different structured activities. Our multi-sport/activity-based program approach keeps the kids engaged, active and having fun! We will be promoting outdoor activity as much as possible (please dress the kids accordingly). Weekly schedules will be sent home via email every Sunday to allow parents a chance to see what their child will be doing during the upcoming week. We hope it also gives the kids something to look forward to!
Grade 4 and 5 participants are eligible to take part in our FUNdamentals program that offers paddling opportunities in the fall and spring when the water is warm and safe. Once off the water in the fall, FUNdamentals participants take part in daily physical activity sessions that focus on fitness, games and even some off-water paddling technique training. This program is for kids that love physical activity and especially those who would like to get involved in the sport of paddling in the summer. FUNdamentals includes Grade 6 students. Those Grade 4 and 5 kids that are interested must demonstrate that they have the social skills, the maturity and physical ability to take part. Our coaches will work with parents to make this determination and then our coaches ensure they are grouped appropriately to ensure the experience is a safe and rewarding one.
